Wave after wave: life advice from a 22 year old
I think one of the best comparisons to life is the ocean. Like the ocean, we experience turbulence at different levels and calmness at different levels. For each wave that visits the shore, it symbolizes another obstacle to overcome in life—you just have the choice of finding the good in each one. Some of the waves I’ve gone over so far haven’t been easy, yet there’s always a lesson that you can take from it to conquer the next one.
The experiences that we have daily can shape us. The energy that we put out into the world can be absorbed by others—and it’s not always the good kind. Learning to create your own vibe and seek out other good vibes is something I try to practice.
We can’t control the ocean, yet we can learn how to deal with it in a way that helps ourselves and each other. You’ve probably heard the saying, “you can’t control the wind, but you can adjust your sails.”. This is exactly what life is!
Forcing a situation or someone to be your friend, or worrying about something that you have zero control over in the end is pointless. It’s way easier said than done to wrap your head around this at first, but the realization of this releases us from so much stress.
Although I’m just 22, this is one of the pieces of advice that I keep close—I literally don’t know where I would be without it.
